Today, as our beloved country marks 65 years of independence, This is Africa Magazine joins millions of Nigerians at home and abroad to celebrate this momentous occasion. Sixty-five years ago, we took our destiny into our own hands with courage, faith, and an unshakable belief in the promise of a united, prosperous Nigeria.
At 65, our nation is a tapestry of resilience and possibility. We have weathered storms, endured trials, and faced challenges that would have broken lesser nations. Yet, like the eagle we proudly call our own, Nigeria continues to rise—stronger, wiser, and more determined to fulfil its destiny as the giant of Africa.
This day is not only a reminder of our history, but also a call to the future. We must recommit ourselves to the values of unity, justice, and progress that define the very spirit of our independence. Our strength lies in our diversity, and our greatness lies in our ability to work together—across regions, religions, and generations—for the good of all.
As we celebrate, let us not forget the responsibility that comes with freedom. Nigeria’s next chapter demands honest leadership, active citizenship, and a collective resolve to build a society where opportunity is not the privilege of a few, but the right of every Nigerian child.
On behalf of This is Africa Magazine, I salute the spirit of our founding fathers, honour the sacrifices of our heroes past, and celebrate the unwavering hope of every Nigerian today. May this 65th Independence Anniversary inspire us to dream bigger, act boldly, and keep faith in the Nigeria we know is possible.
Happy Independence Day, Nigeria!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
 Long live Africa.
