Seychelles To Hold Presidential Election Run-off

Seychelles will head back to the polls for a run-off presidential election after no candidate secured the required majority in last week’s vote. The electoral commission announced that opposition leader Patrick Herminie led with 48.8 percent, while incumbent President Wavel Ramkalawan followed closely with 46.4 percent.

Under the country’s electoral laws, a candidate must win more than 50 percent of the vote to be declared president, making the fresh contest between the two frontrunners inevitable. The run-off has been scheduled for next week.

Ramkalawan is seeking a second term on a platform focused on economic recovery, social development, and environmental sustainability.
