Nigeria’s Problems Didn’t Start With Tinubu – Akume

As Nigeria marks its 65th Independence Day, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, said the country’s current challenges are not new and did not begin with the present administration. Speaking during a special service in Abuja to commemorate the occasion, Akume said President Bola Tinubu has initiated bold reforms aimed at addressing longstanding national issues, including the removal of fuel subsidies.

Akume stressed the importance of unity and collective responsibility in national development, urging all Nigerians to actively contribute to building a better country. He also emphasized the need for strong cooperation among the three arms of government to ensure the success of ongoing reforms and drive the country toward progress.

The SGF described Independence Day as a moment not only to celebrate Nigeria’s freedom from colonial rule but also to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers. He reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transformation and expressed optimism about the country’s future, noting that light lies ahead despite current challenges.
