Tinubu Ends Rivers State Emergency Rule

President Bola Tinubu has officially lifted the state of emergency in Rivers State, six months after it was declared to halt a constitutional breakdown and restore order in the state’s political affairs.

The President, in a statement he personally signed, explained that calm had returned, political stability was improving, and major stakeholders had signalled readiness to embrace democracy once again.

From September 18, 2025, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule will resume full constitutional duties.

Tinubu praised the support of the National Assembly, traditional rulers, and Rivers people throughout the tense emergency period. He defended his earlier decision as a necessary move to prevent chaos, stressing that it was in line with constitutional responsibility.

The President said he was hopeful that with renewed cooperation, the state’s leaders could finally work in unity to serve the people.
