Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has assured residents that his administration will not borrow a single kobo to finance projects, declaring that all ongoing and inherited projects will be completed within his tenure without plunging the state into fresh debts.
The governor made the pledge on Thursday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 16.5-kilometre asphalt road connecting Kayarda Tasha, Kayarda Gari, Unguwan Sarki, Maskawa, and Dan Alhaji communities in Lere Local Government Area.
“This project will be executed without borrowing a single naira. We have inherited several abandoned projects across Kaduna State, and I want to assure you that my administration will complete them before the end of our tenure. We will not leave behind debts or uncompleted works,” he said.
According to the governor, the road project, described as “unprecedented in Lere Local Government,” will be handled by a reputable construction firm to ensure quality delivery and long-term durability.
Sani went further to enumerate some of the inherited projects in Lere already completed or nearing completion under his watch.
“We have completed the Rewa Bridge that links Gure town. The Marjeri Bridge is also completed. Tudai Bridge will be finished within a month or two. I have also taken steps to restore electricity supply to Yarkasuwa, Kayarda, Ramin Kura, and Mariri towns,” he revealed, adding that his administration’s focus remains on providing basic infrastructure across rural communities.
Sani, who became governor in May 2023, has repeatedly emphasised prudent financial management, especially at a time when several states are battling huge debt burdens. “Our priority is the welfare of our people, not borrowing to embark on projects that may mortgage the future of our children,” he stressed.
The Commissioner for Environment, Alhaji Abubakar Buba, described the governor as a leader who matches words with action, noting that Lere Local Government has benefitted immensely from his administration.
“We have a governor who keeps his promises. He has appointed several Lere indigenes into key positions in his government, which has given our people a sense of belonging and access to the dividends of democracy,” he said.
Buba listed some political officeholders from Lere, including the House Majority Leader, Hon. Munira Suleiman Tanimu; the member representing Lere in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Munir; and the Lere Local Government Chairman, Hon. Jafaaru, among others.
“The governor allows us a free hand to run our affairs and operate an open-door policy. This is why we have been able to provide succor to our people,” Buba added.
House Majority Leader Munira Suleiman Tanimu reminded the gathering that the road project was one of the key requests made by Lere residents during the 2023 electioneering campaigns.
“Today, Governor Uba Sani has kept his promise to the people of Lere. With this project, we are confident that the 2027 elections will produce a repeat of the recent by-election victories recorded by our great party, the APC, in Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, Zaria-Kewaye, and Basawa State Constituencies,” he added.
On his part, Hon. Ahmed Munir of the House of Representatives spoke about the governor’s humble beginnings in Lere.
“He grew up in Unguwan Makama in Saminaka town, the headquarters of Lere Local Government. As a young man, he was a top striker for the Saminaka Celtics football team,” Munir recalled.
“Just as he scored the highest goals for his team, he will continue to be a striker in the political realm, scoring goals for the people of Kaduna State.”
it been earlier reported that Sani flagged off the commencement of the Kabala Costain to Aliyu Makama Link Dual Carriage Road, a project abandoned by the previous administration after completing only 30 per cent.
The Governor, who performed the ceremony near the Kabala Costain link bridge, said that his administration has already mobilized the contractor to ensure that the remaining 70% of the project is completed in record time.
“This road is a vital artery that will connect the vibrant communities of Kaduna South to Kaduna North Local Government Areas.
“It is more than an infrastructure, but a lifeline, a channel for commerce and a pathway to opportunity,” the governor said.
