The EFCC has sounded the alarm that Nigeria’s growing internet fraud crisis is fuelling stricter visa conditions for innocent citizens seeking to travel abroad.
Chairman of the commission, Ola Olukoyede, raised the concern at an event in Port Harcourt organised by the Coalition of Nigerian Youth on Security and Safety Affairs.
Represented by CSE Coker Oyegunle, Olukoyede said fraudsters were not only endangering their own future but also damaging Nigeria’s international image. The ripple effects, he warned, include tougher visa hurdles, a battered reputation, and slower economic progress.
He appealed to young Nigerians to redirect their energy into positive ventures such as digital innovation, entrepreneurship, farming, and the creative economy — sectors he said could bring both pride and prosperity to the nation.
