The Federal Government has once again reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring every Nigerian has access to clean water and decent sanitation.
This assurance came from the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Professor Joseph Utsev, during a forum in Makurdi, Benue State. He highlighted ongoing efforts ranging from dam construction to irrigation projects, many of which are being delivered through innovative public-private partnerships.
Utsev noted that under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, visible strides are already being made through programmes such as the World Bank-backed SURWASH, the PEWASH initiative, and the Clean Nigeria Campaign, which aims to wipe out open defecation by 2030.
He urged participants to use the gathering not only as a talking shop but as a real platform to influence policy, generate fresh ideas, and build stronger partnerships for a “water-secure Nigeria.”
In a goodwill message, Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, threw his weight behind the federal government’s efforts, stressing that access to clean water is nothing short of a basic human right.
Also speaking, the National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Water Engineers, Joshua Titus-Sanga, called for bold and innovative strategies to keep pace with the fast-rising demand for urban water supply.
