The Anambra State Police Command, working with local vigilantes, has arrested four suspected cultists after a bloody clash in Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area.
According to reports, the violence erupted around 7:00 a.m. on September 16, 2025, when rival cult groups armed with machetes, daggers, broken bottles, and other weapons attacked each other behind the Nwafor Orizu College of Education.
The swift response of security operatives led to the arrest of four suspects: Oyachonam Friday (26), Akachukwu Ekwenze (23), David Chukwuma (25), and Eziolise Aloysius (23). Others escaped into nearby bushes.
During the fight, David Chukwuma sustained machete wounds but has since received treatment and is responding well.
The suspects reportedly confessed to belonging to the notorious “AYES” confraternity. Investigations are ongoing, and police are hunting for the fleeing cultists.
Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, assured residents that the Command remains firmly committed to stamping out cultism and violent crime in Anambra State.
