The Delta State Government has applauded Zenith Bank Plc for its consistent sponsorship of the Principals’ Cup Football Competition, describing the initiative as a major boost for youth empowerment and sports development. At a press briefing in Asaba, the Commissioner for Secondary Education, Rose Ezewu, highlighted the bank’s unwavering support across eight editions of the tournament, noting that it has become one of the most prestigious platforms for nurturing sporting talent among secondary school students.
According to the government, the competition has produced many success stories, with players progressing to represent Delta State at both national and international levels. Beyond football, officials stressed that the Principals’ Cup serves as a vital tool for instilling discipline, teamwork, and character development in young people, while opening opportunities for careers in sports alongside education.
Zenith Bank executives also restated their commitment to the programme, pointing out that the initiative was launched in 2017 as part of a long-term strategy to promote youth engagement and sports development. The bank said its partnership with the Delta State Government reflects a broader goal of using sports as a vehicle for socio-economic empowerment.
Organisers further emphasised that the competition continues to provide a platform for discovering and cultivating the athletic potential of Delta’s youth. They noted that values such as discipline, resilience, and teamwork promoted through the tournament are essential to building leadership and preparing young athletes for future opportunities.
