The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has arrested four suspects over the vandalisation and illegal transportation of electric aluminium conductors worth more than ₦5.3 million in Kano State.
The Kano/Jigawa Area Command said its operatives intercepted the suspects along the Hadejia–Ringim Road with 13 bundles of vandalised 155mm conductors measuring 1,071 metres, hidden under 73 bundles of firewood.
Area Comptroller Dalhatu Abubakar described the act as economic sabotage with devastating consequences, stressing that the affected community has been left without access to water and electricity, endangering lives in homes and hospitals. He urged residents to assist security agencies with timely information to curb such crimes.
In a separate development, gunmen killed a Customs officer at the Fingila checkpoint in Dandi Local Government Area of Kebbi State.
Witnesses said the attackers, numbering about seven and riding motorcycles, invaded nearby farms, harassed farmers, seized food items, and forced them to eat from their own meals before taking the rest.
The heavily armed assailants also warned farmers against working that day, heightening fear in the community.
