…Association Confers Fellowship on Barau
The Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) has conferred its highest professional honour, the designation of Fellow Certified National Accountant (FCNA), on the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Jibrin Barau.
The professional body recognised Barau’s contributions to public finance management and legislative fiscal reforms.
The conferment took place on Tuesday during the 30th Annual National Conference of the Association in Abuja,
The development according to a statement by Barau’s Media Aide, Ismael Mudashir, drew thunderous ovation from delegates and dignitaries, including the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
ANAN’s President and Chairman of Council, Chief (Hajia) Zuwairat Talatu Kishimi, FCNA, who administered the oath of allegiance, described Senator Barau as a worthy ambassador of both the accountancy profession and the Association.
Kashimi said, “By the virtue of the powers conferred on me as the President and Chairman of the Council of this great association, I hereby admit you into the fellowship of the Association. We are proud of you and we celebrate you.”
In addition to the fellowship conferment, Senator Barau received an award for chairing the high-profile national conference, which convened under the theme of strengthening ethical governance and fiscal accountability in Nigeria.
The Chairman of ANAN’s Conferences, Seminars, and Workshops Committee, Mal Adamu Abubakar, praised the Deputy Senate President as a reform-minded statesman with a long-standing legacy in shaping Nigeria’s fiscal architecture.
“Senator Barau’s career reflects exceptional mastery of public finance management, sharpened through his leadership of appropriation committees in both chambers of the National Assembly,” Abubakar said.
In his remarks, Senator Barau expressed deep appreciation for the recognition, commending ANAN for its strategic role in strengthening the country’s financial ecosystem.
He said, “ANAN deserves recognition for reinforcing ethics and governance through strategic collaborations and regulatory enhancements.
“These efforts are crucial to supporting the National Assembly’s legislative reforms aimed at bolstering Nigeria’s financial integrity.”
He also lauded the Association’s focus on public sector financial management, adding that the work of accountants remains central to ensuring fiscal responsibility and transparency in governance.
“Your commitment aligns with the objectives of the Fiscal Responsibility Act passed by the National Assembly and reflects the government’s emphasis on prudent public fund management,” Barau noted.
The conference, according to the statement, gathered prominent professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders from across the country, reaffirming the growing relevance of professional accountants in national development and legislative reforms.
