The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement BPP, Adebowale Adedokun, has called on the newly inaugurated chairmen and board members of Nigeria’s regional development commissions to strictly adhere to due process in public procurement.
Adedokun issued the charge during a retreat organised by the Ministry of Regional Development for the boards of the South-South, South-West, and North-Central Development Commissions. His remarks were contained in a statement released today in Abuja by the BPP’s Head of Public Relations, Zira Nagga.
Highlighting the importance of compliance, the BPP boss said that Nigeria’s development has long been hampered by a lack of transparency and accountability in procurement. He stressed that President Bola Tinubu’s administration has directed the BPP to shift procurement from a transactional exercise to one that drives national development.
He urged board members to study the Public Procurement Act PPA 2007 and related regulations, warning that both chairpersons and members are accountable for procurement decisions, including violations by subordinate officers.
