At least 15 Memoranda of Understanding MoUs are set to be signed between Nigeria and Angola during the ongoing 5th session of the Nigeria-Angola Bilateral Economic Joint Commission BEJC in Luanda, Angola. The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, who is leading Nigeria’s delegation, disclosed this at the commission’s opening ceremony. She said the MoUs are expected to significantly elevate bilateral relations and foster mutual development across key sectors.
The MoUs cover diverse areas, including establishment of a Nigeria-Angola Business Council, Economic and technical cooperation, Joint efforts to combat illicit drug production and trafficking, Collaboration in manufacturing, human capacity development, and air services
The Minister noted that while efforts to convene this session had stalled since the last meeting in Abuja in 2001, recent diplomatic momentum made the Luanda session possible.
She further revealed that, in addition to the 15 MoUs, two twinning agreements will also be finalized Between Bayelsa State of Nigeria and Namibe Province of Angola. and another between Nasarawa State of Nigeria and Bengo Province of Angola. These agreements, she said, will encourage sub-national cooperation in critical sectors such as trade, education, and agriculture.
