Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has approved the submission of a bill to the Kano State House of Assembly that would grant complete financial and administrative autonomy to the state’s 44 Local Government Areas LGAs. The proposed legislation, aimed at empowering the councils to operate independently, was disclosed in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Dawakin-Tofa, today.
According to the statement, the governor made the announcement during the 31st Executive Council Meeting, where he approved the transmission of the bill to the Assembly.
Governor Yusuf believes the move will enhance transparency, accelerate development at the grassroots, and strengthen democratic governance across the state. He emphasized that by granting the councils greater control over their resources and administration, communities will benefit from faster and more accountable service delivery. The governor has now directed that the bill be formally sent to the State Assembly for legislative review and possible passage into law.
