NUPENG Accuses Dangote of Violating Workers’ Rights

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has accused billionaire businessman Aliko Dangote of preventing workers at his refinery from joining the union, describing it as a violation of the Nigerian constitution.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, NUPENG’s National Secretary, Olawale Afolabi, said the union had consistently requested to unionise Dangote refinery workers but met stiff resistance.

“They don’t want the workers to have any voice or representation,” Afolabi said. “Nigerians have been enjoying regular supply of petroleum products, thanks to tanker drivers who work day and night. Suddenly, they are being discarded and denied their rights.”

He argued that the right to unionise is constitutionally protected and insisted that Dangote Group must comply.
