The National Industrial Court in Lagos has ordered the reinstatement of Thomas Olamide, a nurse dismissed in 2023 by the Ogun State College of Health Technology over whistleblowing activities. The court ruled that her termination was unlawful and directed both the college and the state’s Attorney General to return her to her position without delay.
Justice Yelwa ordered that all outstanding salaries, allowances, and entitlements owed to Olamide be paid, along with an additional N5 million Naira in damages.
During her employment, Olamide had reported the theft of medical supplies and a power generator, as well as exposed attempts to cover up the rape of a student by a senior official, which eventually led to prosecution. The court held that these actions were protected whistleblowing activities and that punishing her violated her rights.
