Over 60,000 farmers in Enugu State are to benefit from a fresh round of free fertiliser and agro-inputs distribution, following the flag-off of the programme by Governor Peter Mbah at Okpara Square.
The governor recalled earlier interventions in 2024, when his administration distributed 12,000 bags of fertilisers, power tillers, seedlings, and cassava stems to farmers at no cost. He noted that those efforts had contributed to bumper harvests and reduced food prices, encouraging further investment in the sector.
Governor Mbah announced the establishment of 200-hectare farm estates in each of the state’s 260 political wards, featuring irrigation systems, warehouses, tractor sheds, and power supply. He disclosed that 102 tractors had already been delivered, with nearly 100 more on the way and 800 set for assembly at a new plant in Enugu.
The governor also revealed plans to upgrade the Enugu State Polytechnic in Iwollo into a University of Agriculture, while setting up Agro-Industrial Processing Zones and Agricultural Transformation Centers across the state. He assured farmers that all inputs would go directly to registered beneficiaries in the state’s database, cutting off middlemen to ensure transparency and impact.
