CDS Applauds Finnish Court Sentencing Of Ekpa To Prison For Terrorism-Related Offences

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has welcomed the verdict delivered by the Päi-jät-Häme District Court in Finland today, which sentenced separatist agitator Simon Ekpa to six years in prison for terrorism-related offences.

General Musa hailed the ruling as a landmark victory in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism, emphasising that the conviction underscores a growing international consensus that those who incite violence or fund terrorism will be held accountable regardless of their location.

The CDS praised the Finnish authorities for their diligence in pursuing justice and acknowledged the crucial role played by Nigerian agencies in the case. He commended the efforts of Nigeria’s security, intelligence, law enforcement agencies, and diplomats for their collaboration in gathering and sharing intelligence that contributed to Ekpa’s conviction.

General Musa stressed that the outcome of the case highlights the power of international cooperation in confronting transnational threats. He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Armed Forces to continue working with global partners to dismantle terrorist networks and secure peace across the country.
