It was glamour, glitz and tears of joy in Lagos on Saturday night as 25-year-old Onyinyechi Basil, representing Anambra State, was crowned Miss Universe Nigeria 2025.
Basil beat 21 other hopefuls to succeed last year’s queen, Chidimma Adetishina. Lagos’ Damilola Bolarinde took first runner-up, Bayelsa’s Fortune Kurobo second, while Ogun’s Irene Ikediashi placed third.
In her victory speech, Basil delivered an inspiring message: “I want young girls to know they can achieve more and still celebrate their cultural identity.”
Her triumph means she will fly Nigeria’s flag at the global Miss Universe competition later this year.
