With just 100 days left before the first ever G20 Leaders’ Summit to be hosted in Africa, South Africa has begun preparations for the global event scheduled for November in Johannesburg.
South Africa’s G20 presidency is nearing its peak, with 87 out of 132 scheduled meetings already concluded across the Sherpa and Finance tracks. The final rounds of ministerial meetings in September will shape the anticipated Johannesburg Leaders’ Declaration, themed Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability. This framework is expected to steer global economic discussions during the summit.
Key topics on the agenda include global inequality and the mounting sovereign debt crisis. President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed a G20 task force, chaired by Nobel Laureate economist Joseph Stiglitz, to explore solutions and propose practical policy measures.
