Rappers Jesse Garba Abaga, better known as Jesse Jagz, Panshak Zamani, known as Ice Prince, and Emeka Akumefule, also called Blaqbonez, have released a new song titled Legacy to celebrate Chocolate City’s 20th anniversary.
The song, which was released on Friday, August 15, features a production from Joel Chuwang Davou, popularly called Jace Kim, and Abraham Chuwang Davou, known as Gplus Chang.
According to Chocolate City’s Chief Executive Officer, Abuchi Ugwu, the track was created to showcase the label’s journey from its founding generation to its present crop of stars.
He said, “This collaboration captures the full spectrum of what we’ve built. From the pioneers who established the foundation to the artists currently dominating African hip-hop globally.”
Since its establishment in 2005 by Audu Maikori and Paul Okeugo, Chocolate City has become one of the most influential music labels in Africa.
The company has groomed several successful artistes, from the early wave of Jesse Jagz and Ice Prince to the current faces of Blaqbonez, Young Jonn, Tariq and Noon Dave.
The record label, which also has interests in media, content creation and talent management, has been credited with shaping the growth of Afrobeats and African hip-hop on the global stage.
Its artistes have performed at major concerts worldwide and now boast millions of streams across platforms.
