Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Ras-mus-sen has summoned the U.S. top diplomat in the country following a report that individuals linked to President Donald Trump are allegedly conducting covert influence operations in Greenland.
According to a report by Denmark’s public broadcaster DR, at least three Americans with ties to Trump are believed to be involved in secret activities aimed at undermining Greenland’s relationship with Denmark. The report cites unnamed sources from Danish government and security services, as well as individuals in both Greenland and the U.S.
DR reported that these operations appear intended to weaken ties between Denmark and Greenland from within Green-landic society. However, it remains unclear whether the Americans were acting independently or under the direction of someone else.
Greenland, a vast Arctic territory with strategic importance, is part of the Kingdom of Denmark but enjoys significant autonomy. According to a report, the island has long been a subject of interest for Trump, who in the past expressed a desire to purchase Greenland, a proposal that was firmly rejected by both Denmark and Greenland.
In response to the latest developments, Minister Ras-mus-sen stated that any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Kingdom is not acceptable.
