Honourable Alfred Emberga has been sworn in as the new Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly after the resignation of his predecessor, Aondona Dajoh.
Emberga, representing Makurdi North Constituency, was elected during an emergency plenary on Sunday. The sitting was presided over by Deputy Speaker, Hon. Lami Ogenyi.
Speaking after his election, Emberga said: “This is a call to service. My leadership will be fair, inclusive and transparent. The task ahead is to stabilise the House and work hand-in-hand with the Governor to deliver for Benue people.”
Interestingly, Emberga had only just returned from suspension, along with three other lawmakers, before being chosen as Speaker.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, through his spokesperson, distanced himself from the leadership shake-up, saying it was strictly an internal Assembly matter.
