The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency in Katsina and Zamfara States after months of relentless killings.
The party said the recent massacre in Malumfashi, Katsina – where 30 worshippers were shot dead in a mosque and 20 villagers burned alive – showed that Nigeria’s security architecture had collapsed.
“It is appalling that while citizens are being slaughtered, the President is busy flying around the world for photo opportunities,” ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi said.
The ADC criticised Tinubu for not addressing victims’ families directly, calling it a failure of leadership.
The party also berated PDP governors for holding a political meeting in Zamfara days after the killings.
“This further proves that APC and PDP do not care about Nigerians – only about power,” Abdullahi said.
The ADC urged a total overhaul of the defence system, pointing to the Chief of Defence Staff’s recent advice for citizens to learn self-defence.
