The National Emergency Management Agency NEMA has confirmed the rescue of 41 passengers and the recovery of four bodies following a recent boat mishap in Goronyo, Sokoto State.
NEMA Sokoto Head of Press Unit, Manzo Ezekiel, disclosed that the death toll rose after another body was recovered earlier in the day, revealing that the deceased was buried immediately after funeral prayers conducted in accordance with Islamic rites.
Ezekiel said the joint response team visited Takuske, Kwakwazu, Bari, and Gamiha to verify the number of missing persons and console bereaved families, confirming that 16 passengers had survived the incident.
NEMA Director General, Zubaida Umar, commended the dedication of the rescue team and the cooperation of all stakeholders, announcing that the multi-agency search and rescue operation has now been concluded.
