The National Youth Service Corps NYSC, has strongly condemned the assault of one of its members, Jennifer Elobor, by local security operatives in Anambra State. A viral video showed members of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi, known as the Agune-chemba Vigilante Group, beating and stripping the corps member in Oba community, Idemili South Local Government Area, after accusing her and others of fraud.
In a statement today, NYSC Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, described the incident as unfortunate and dehumanising, stressing that there is no justification for such treatment, she also welcomed the arrest of the operatives by the Anambra State Government and announced plans to provide Jennifer with both physiological and psychological assistance to help her recover from the trauma.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association NBA has demanded the prosecution of those responsible, commending the state government for its swift action but insisting that justice must be done. The association emphasised that holding the culprits accountable will both serve as redress for the corp member and act as a deterrent against future abuses.
