Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has signed off on a military plan to take control of Gaza City and authorised the mobilisation of about 60,000 reservists.
The Defence ministry confirmed the decision today as international mediators continue efforts to secure a ceasefire in the nearly two-year conflict. The proposal under discussion, already accepted by Hamas, outlines a 60-day truce, phased release of hostages, the freeing of Palestinian prisoners, and expanded humanitarian access into Gaza.
While Qatar described the plan as almost identical to one Israel had previously agreed to, officials in Tel Aviv insist that any deal must guarantee the release of all hostages. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not publicly commented on the latest offer but had previously stressed that Israel would only accept a full release of captives under its own conditions for ending the war.
