A crippling gridlock on the 113-kilometre Mokwa–Bida road has left commuters stranded for hours, with journeys of less than two hours now stretching to eight.
The road, currently under construction, has become nearly impassable due to its poor state, worsened by heavy rainfall and the presence of hundreds of articulated trucks.
Drivers and passengers told reporters the situation was unbearable. Musa Abubakar, a tanker driver, lamented: “I’ve been stuck here since morning. If I had perishable goods, they’d be wasted by now.”
Another traveller, Taju Olasukanmi, said: “I left Ilorin at 7 am for Minna. By 6 pm, I’m still here. It’s unacceptable.”
Frustrated motorists are calling on both federal and state authorities to urgently repair the road, which has become a nightmare route for transporters and travellers alike.
