Police Arrest Officer, Three Civilians Over Extortion and Robbery in Edo

The Edo State Police Command has arrested Inspector Ojo Oloruntobi alongside three civilians for allegedly extorting, harassing, and robbing residents in Benin City.

Police spokesperson Moses Yamu confirmed the arrest on Sunday, naming the civilians as Charles Onah, Joseph Ohis, and Enoma Agho.

The arrests followed a viral video in which a victim alleged that policemen abducted him, seized his phone, and forced him to part with valuables. Acting on the complaint, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, ordered immediate investigations.

On 15 August, the Ugbowo Surveillance Team intercepted the suspects with a silver Toyota Yaris and incriminating evidence.

“The CP has vowed there will be no hiding place for rogue officers. Any policeman caught extorting, brutalising, or abusing power will be dismissed, arrested, and prosecuted,” Yamu said.

The Command urged victims to come forward and assist investigations, assuring the public of its zero-tolerance stance against corruption.
