NNPP Rejects APC Victory in Kano Re-Run, Heads to Court

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has rejected the outcome of the Tsanyawa/Ghari State Assembly re-run election in Kano, alleging that the poll was rigged in favour of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Addressing journalists in Kano on Sunday, the NNPP State Chairman, Hashimu Suleiman Dungurawa, said the party would challenge the results in court.

Dungurawa accused “unpatriotic politicians” of colluding with INEC officials to deny voters their rights. “Elections are supposed to be declared at constituency collation centres, but INEC announced this one at its state headquarters, giving room for manipulation,” he said.

He noted that all presiding officers in the 10 affected polling units had already signed results in favour of NNPP before INEC cancelled them and reinstated old results that had previously been nullified by the court.

“The will of the people has been subverted. We will fight this injustice in court,” Dungurawa vowed.

The NNPP, however, praised security agencies and voters for their massive turnout, stressing that it would not stop challenging what it described as “federal might” being used against Kano people.
