Abia Gov Otti: Free Education and Meritocracy Now in Focus

Abia State Governor Alex Otti says his administration is committed to free education and building future leaders, stressing that the state celebrates merit over mediocrity.

Speaking at the 75th birthday celebration of PDP stalwart Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa in Umuahia, Otti said: “In Abia, we celebrate meritocracy. We don’t care where you come from—if you live here and contribute, you’re one of us.”

Otti highlighted his government’s investment in education and praised Ohuabunwa as “one of Nigeria’s finest” whose integrity and patriotism remain unquestionable.

The celebrant, meanwhile, launched his new book Driven by Revelation & Inspiration, recounting his presidential bid and warning that Nigeria’s political rot may not be fixable by 2027. “Real change might only be possible by 2031,” he said.

The event attracted dignitaries including Peter Obi, Governor Peter Mbah (represented), and former Foreign Minister Ike Nwachukwu.
