Premier League Kicks Off: Chelsea and United Set to Challenge Liverpool and Arsenal

The 2025/26 Premier League season exploded into life on Friday night as Liverpool battled past Bournemouth 4-2 at Anfield in a game packed with drama, tributes, and controversy.

From VAR flashpoints to a stunning solo goal by Semenyo, the opener reminded fans what they had missed in the 82-day off-season. It was also an emotional night, with tributes pouring in for the late Diogo Jota.

Liverpool’s new signing Hugo Ekitike impressed again, scoring his second goal in as many appearances. The 23-year-old joins a list of new strikers expected to shape the season, alongside Arsenal’s Viktor Gyökeres, United’s Benjamin Sesko, and Chelsea’s Joao Pedro.

Football analyst Clinton McDubus believes Liverpool remain title favourites but expects Arsenal, Chelsea, and City to push them. “Gyökeres and Ekitike could easily hit 20 goals this season,” he predicted.

While pundits expect newly promoted Burnley, Leeds, and Sunderland to struggle, McDubus tipped Sunderland to spring a surprise after spending £130m wisely. On the flip side, he warned Newcastle could be this season’s biggest flop if they lose star man Isak.

The battle lines are drawn. Ten months of drama, passion, and twists await.
