Court discharges Ibom Air passenger accused of unruly conduct

A Lagos Magistrates’ Court has discharged Miss Comfort Emmason of charges over alleged unruly behaviour aboard an Ibom Air flight from Uyo to Lagos.

Presiding Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami struck out the five-count charge after the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Airport Command, withdrew the case. Prosecution counsel Oluwabunmi Adeitan told the court the withdrawal was in line with Section 72(1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Defence counsel, Adams Atakpa, did not oppose the application, paving way for the dismissal. Magistrate Salami, however, cautioned Emmason to exercise restraint in future encounters, regardless of provocation, before formally discharging her.

Miss Emmason had earlier been arraigned and granted ₦500,000 bail with two sureties, but she was remanded at Kirikiri Correctional Centre after failing to meet conditions. Her discharge now draws a line under the controversial case.
