FEC Approves Ban On Creation Of Federal Tertiary Institutions

The Federal Executive Council has approved a seven-year freeze on the creation of new federal tertiary institutions across the country.

The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa announced the council’s decision warning that the unchecked proliferation of poorly subscribed institutions risks producing underqualified graduates, damaging the global perception of Nigerian degrees, and worsening unemployment levels.

Alausa further clarified that the plan is intended to strengthen the quality of higher education in the country and ensure that graduates are better prepared for both local and international opportunities.
