Nigeria’s CHAN campaign came crashing down on Tuesday night after the Super Eagles B suffered a brutal 4-0 defeat to Sudan — their heaviest loss in the tournament so far.
It had all started brightly. Nigeria controlled the early exchanges and thought they’d gone ahead in the 22nd minute when Anthony Ijoma, storming from defence, latched onto a long pass and scored. But VAR ruled it out for a tight offside.
Then, in a cruel twist, defender Leonard Ngenge tried to head away a shot from Sudan’s Abdel Yagoub — only to put the ball in his own net.
Things unravelled further just before the break. The ball struck Ngenge’s outstretched hand in the box, and Sudan’s Walieldin Khdir calmly buried the penalty to make it 2-0.
Ten minutes into the second half, Yagoub grabbed his first goal with a fierce left-foot strike, before sealing the rout in the 62nd minute with his second. Sudan now top the group; Nigeria’s final game against Congo is just for pride.
