Super Eagles striker Umar Sadiq has sealed the purchase of Nigeria National League (NNL) side Ranchers Bees, in a deal that promises to breathe new life into one of Nigeria’s once-great football institutions.
The Real Sociedad forward teamed up with prominent politician Bello El-Rufai to acquire the Kaduna-based club, DAILY POST reports.
In a swift move to reshape the club’s fortunes, Sadiq appointed his former teammate, Nura Abdullahi, as the new president. The goal? Secure promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in the coming season.
For Nigerian football fans of the 90s, Ranchers Bees was a name that commanded respect. The club famously produced top talents like Daniel Amokachi, Dominic Iorfa, and Davidson Owumi. Their crowning achievement came in 1993 when they lifted the WAFU Cup – but their star dimmed soon after, slipping into football obscurity.
Now, with Sadiq’s resources, El-Rufai’s influence, and Abdullahi’s leadership, there’s a renewed buzz around the Bees. Supporters are hopeful the club can once again sting its way to the top tier of Nigerian football.
