PDP Slams EFCC Over Tambuwal Arrest, Cries Foul Play by APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has come out swinging against the arrest of former governor and serving senator, Aminu Tambuwal, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), branding the move as nothing more than a political ambush to cripple the opposition.

In a strongly worded statement released on Tuesday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Hassan Sanyinnawal, accused the APC-led Federal Government of orchestrating the arrest as part of a broader plot to silence dissent and weaken resistance to President Bola Tinubu’s rule.

The PDP dismissed the EFCC’s investigation as a “fishing expedition” built on a worn-out case that had previously failed to yield any concrete evidence.

“Political forces in Sokoto and Abuja are working overtime to smear Tambuwal’s name and intimidate him into abandoning his stand against bad governance,” the statement declared.

According to the party, Tambuwal’s two terms as governor were defined by fiscal prudence and transparency. They accused the anti-graft agency of cherry-picking cases to favour the ruling party, conveniently overlooking credible corruption allegations involving APC heavyweights.

The PDP urged anti-corruption bodies to shed political bias and focus on genuine justice. It also called on its supporters to remain calm but unyielding in their demand for true democracy and accountability.

“Our confidence in Tambuwal’s integrity is unshakable,” the party insisted. “These politically driven probes will not erode the trust we have in his leadership.”

Tambuwal, who previously held the position of Speaker of the House of Representatives, was taken into EFCC custody on Monday over alleged financial misconduct during his time as Sokoto governor.
