Federal Government threatens to dismiss 3,598 workers of dismissal

The Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC) has issued a stern ultimatum to 3,598 civil servants who failed to participate in the 2021 verification exercise — show up for a re-verification or be branded as holding fake appointment letters.

The re-verification will take place from Monday, 18 August to Thursday, 28 August 2025 across ministries and agencies, including the Federal Ministries of Agriculture, Defence, Education, Justice, Works, Information, Science and Technology, Aviation, Finance, Interior, and even the State House.

A circular dated 4 August, directs all affected officers to confirm their names on the Commission’s website, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation’s website, or on their ministry’s notice board.

The Commission has made it clear that this is not just a routine exercise and officers must appear in person with both original and photocopies of their employment documents, including appointment and promotion letters, gazetted confirmation of appointment, staff change letter, and their July 2025 IPPIS payslip.

All concerned officers are to check for their names on the Commission’s website www.fedcivilservice.gov.ng, the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation’s website www.ohcsf.gov.ng, and the notice boards of your ministry.

This move comes as the FCSC intensifies efforts to sanitise the civil service and root out ghost workers from the payroll.
