Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has pledged to construct a 500-bed hostel for the medical school of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. The announcement came during his campaign tour of wards in Esan West Local Government Area ahead of the August 16 Edo Central Senatorial By-election. He said work on the project would begin in the coming weeks.
The governor recalled that one of his first actions in office was to raise the university’s sub-vention to ₦500 million Naira and constitute its governing council and urged party supporters to remain committed to his development agenda and to mobilise support for future electoral victories.
The campaign rally drew top APC figures, including the state’s Deputy Chairman, Sylvester Aigboboh; Edo Central Senatorial Leader, Cecil Isekhaigbe; Secretary to the State Government; and Chief of Staff to the Governor, Gani Audu.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Government has banned activities of the National Union of Road Transport Workers and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria over the illegal collection of revenue. Authorities said the move followed a resurgence of extortion and harassment by some groups previously authorised to work with the state revenue service.
