A flood triggered by heavy rainfall has killed at least eight people in Kpoghirikpo, Afikpo LGA, Ebonyi State, and left thousands homeless.
Victims include a mother and her four children, whose bodies have been buried. Four children were rescued alive, while others remain missing.
The disaster wiped out more than 800 farms and displaced about 3,000 households. Residents are pleading for urgent government aid.
State Commissioner for Human Capital Development, Ann Aligwe, confirmed relief efforts are under way and urged people in low-lying areas to move to safer state-provided shelters.
