Chief Dare Olatunde Maiyegun, the man who first brought the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to Kogi State, has rubbished claims by Rep. Leke Abejide that he’s the “landlord” of the party.
“How do you become landlord of a house you didn’t build?” Maiyegun asked in an interview. “When we brought the ADC to Kogi, Hon. Leke was busy in Kano doing business. He wasn’t at the first, second, or third meetings that sealed the party’s entry into the state.”
Maiyegun says the ADC was established in Kogi through the efforts of a political team including Comrade Isah Daniel, Hon. Kashim Mabo, and Hon. Positive Idoko — long before Abejide came along.
He claims he personally introduced Abejide to then-national chairman Chief Ralph Nwosu. While acknowledging Abejide funded his own campaigns, Maiyegun insists this doesn’t make him “owner” of the ADC.
The pioneer secretary also warned that Abejide’s third-term ambition in the House of Representatives is “dead on arrival” due to a long-standing power rotation agreement in Yagba Federal Constituency. By 2027, he said, Yagba East would have had eight years, and it would be Mopamuro’s turn.
Maiyegun accused Abejide of breaking a 2023 agreement with Mopamuro leaders, and of hypocrisy for planning to back another party’s candidate despite condemning “anti-party” behaviour in others.
