Strike Paralyses Taraba Government Offices as Labour Unions Down Tools

Government offices in Taraba State have been deserted as the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) began an indefinite strike at midnight on Monday.

The decision followed a joint meeting of both unions’ State Executive Councils, where leaders accused the state’s Biometric Data Capture Committee of irregularities harming workers.

In a bulletin signed by NLC State Secretary Adamu W. Buba and TUC State Secretary Polina I. Gani, all workers were ordered to stay home and “withdraw their services until further notice.”

The unions vowed the strike will continue until the government addresses their grievances, which officials had allegedly ignored despite an earlier ultimatum.

By Tuesday morning, government activities in Jalingo and across the state had ground to a halt, with ministries, departments, and agencies shut down.

The state government had yet to respond officially at the time of filing this report.
