EFCC Nabs Tambuwal Over Alleged ₦189bn Fraud

Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State and now a serving senator, has found himself in the hot seat as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) grills him in Abuja.

According to The Cable, Tambuwal is being held over allegations of massive fraudulent cash withdrawals totalling a staggering ₦189 billion during his time as governor.

This high-profile arrest is already stirring political waters. It comes just days after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) accused the EFCC of cherry-picking its targets, focusing on opposition politicians while ignoring others.

In a strongly-worded statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC claimed the recent spate of EFCC summons for senior figures in the opposition coalition was nothing short of politically motivated harassment.

The party also alleged that some of these cases are not backed by fresh evidence, but are simply old files being dusted off and rehashed for political effect.
