Argentina Moves Forward While Corruption Drags Nigeria – Obi

Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, says Nigeria’s leadership under President Bola Tinubu is failing to tackle poverty, corruption, and economic mismanagement — leaving millions worse off.

In a post on X, Obi cited United Nations data showing that 34 million Nigerians face acute food insecurity and 133 million — about 63% of the population — live in multidimensional poverty.

With inflation nearing 30% and unemployment biting hard, Obi said the middle class is being wiped out.

He pointed to Argentina as proof that decisive, disciplined leadership works. “By early 2024, 52% of Argentines lived in poverty with inflation over 200%. Within two years, the new president cut poverty to 38.1%, extreme poverty to 8.2%, and brought inflation to 2–3% monthly,” Obi wrote.

Both Argentina’s current administration and Tinubu’s began in the same year, Obi noted. “Two years may not fix everything, but it’s enough to start real reforms — if the leadership is honest and focused,” he said.

He urged Nigeria’s leaders to fight corruption, slash waste in government, and prioritise education, healthcare, and poverty reduction to “restore dignity to our citizens.”
