Guests at a weekend pool party in Abeokuta got more than they bargained for when operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) stormed the Green Legacy Hotel — located within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library complex — in the early hours of Sunday.
Witnesses said several young men suspected of internet fraud were whisked away. Over 20 luxury cars and other valuables were reportedly seized during the operation, which was said to have been carried out by EFCC operatives from the Lagos zonal command.
Though the anti-graft agency has yet to officially confirm the raid, the Managing Director of the Obasanjo Library Ventures, Vitalis Ortese, acknowledged “an incident” had occurred, but stopped short of giving details.
“There was an incident this morning. We will find out and we will let you know,” Ortese told reporters.
When contacted, EFCC’s Lagos spokesperson, Ayo Oyewole, said he was unaware of the operation but promised to make enquiries.
The dramatic early-morning bust has since sparked a flurry of conversations online, with many curious about what led the EFCC to target the party.
