The Ogun State Government has fired back at Senator Gbenga Daniel, urging him to comply with urban renewal laws rather than cry political persecution.
Daniel, a former governor and current senator representing Ogun East, had accused Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration of plotting to demolish his Sagamu residence and Conference Hotels Limited, claiming the move was politically motivated and unlawful.
But in a strongly worded statement, Governor Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, dismissed the allegations as “cheap blackmail,” insisting Daniel was served the same notices as other property owners in Sagamu GRA.
“Nobody is bigger than the State. Senator Gbenga Daniel is distinguished no doubt, but he is not bigger than Ogun State,” Akinmade said.
He explained that the state’s redevelopment programme — which began in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta — was being extended to Sagamu and Ijebu-Ode, requiring an audit of all properties to verify planning permits. Daniel, he said, should simply present his documents for verification instead of spinning a political narrative.
