Rwanda agrees to take up to 250 deportees from United States

The government of Rwanda has reached an agreement with the United States allowing up to 250 migrants deported from the U.S. to be resettled in the East African country.

Spokesperson for the Rwandan government, Yolande Makolo confirmed that the deal was signed in Kigali in June as part of Washington’s continued hardline stance on immigration under President Donald Trump’s administration.

Makolo  said the arrangement reflects the country’s deep-rooted values of reintegration and support for displaced individuals, shaped by its own history of hardship. Rwanda will review each migrant case individually, retaining the right to approve who is accepted for resettlement.

Migrants approved under the agreement will receive workforce training, healthcare, and housing assistance to help them rebuild their lives. Rwandan officials say the initiative is not only humanitarian but also aligns with the country’s vision of inclusive growth and economic development.
