The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has seized banned, expired, and unregistered products worth over ₦1.5 billion naira in a sweeping enforcement operation at the Lagos Trade Fair Market.
The raid, which focused on the cosmetics section of the market, uncovered several warehouses stocked with cosmetics, food items, and other regulated products that lacked registration or expiration details. The agency evacuated over a trailer-load of such goods, while a second trailer carrying unregistered cosmetics was intercepted with its driver fleeing the scene.
NAFDAC described the seizure as one of the largest in recent months and part of a broader crackdown on the sale of substandard and hazardous products across Nigerian markets. Officials say these operations are being intensified nationwide to safeguard public health and remove dangerous items from circulation.
This latest action follows an earlier bust in Alapere, Ketu, where NAFDAC uncovered fake chemicals, expired food additives, and repackaged pharmaceutical materials. The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting Nigerians from harmful products and ensuring that only safe, properly labeled items are sold in the country.
