Federal Government to transition 5 million Nigerian homes to clean cooking by 2030

The Federal Government says it is stepping up efforts to transition five million Nigerian homes to clean cooking solutions by the year 2030. This target is part of a broader national strategy to harness the country’s vast gas resources for sustainable development and energy access.

Speaking at the opening of the 48th Nigeria Annual International Conference and Exhibition in Abuja, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, outlined key initiatives driving this goal. These include investments in critical infrastructure like the OB3 and AKK gas pipelines, as well as support for modular gas projects such as mini-LNG and CNG stations to bring clean energy closer to communities.

The minister noted that the government is also focusing on last-mile access by supporting public-private partnerships across the gas value chain—from construction and logistics to retail distribution. Under the Decade of Gas Initiative, the country is seeing progress in LPG distribution, local cylinder manufacturing, autogas station development, and virtual pipelines to serve off-grid areas.

The Federal Government stressed that Nigeria’s gas resources must be used to benefit its citizens—not only as an export product but as a catalyst for job creation, industrialisation, and affordable energy. The Minister added that technology, human resources, local supply chains, and sound policy will all play critical roles in shaping the nation’s clean @ future.
