Federal Government Promotes 35 Senior Correctional Officers

The Federal Government of Nigeria has promoted thirty senior officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service to the rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections.

The promotions, a move aimed at reinforcing ongoing reforms within the sector, was approved by the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board and form part of a merit-based advancement initiative designed to boost professionalism and leadership across the service.

Of the newly elevated officers, twenty-seven are from the general duty cadre, recognised for their strong leadership and service delivery across various commands nationwide. The remaining three are professional officers promoted for their expertise in Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health, reflecting the agency’s recognition of specialised roles in correctional operations.

The Service leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to aligning operations with international standards and enhancing capacity to tackle modern security and rehabilitation challenges. The newly promoted officers are expected to play key roles in driving the reform agenda under the Renewed Hope initiative, with a focus on professionalism, accountability, and improved public safety outcomes.
